HMRC helpline for those affected by the floods
On Christmas Eve 2013 the South West of England was battered by fierce storms. The high winds and heavy rain caused power outages, road closures and travel disruption. Many families had their Christmas dinner by candlelight.
As January got underway there was no let up in the extreme weather, water levels kept rising and more rivers burst their banks. Families were being evacuated from their homes and businesses had to shut their doors. The military were called in to help evacuate those in villages that had been cut off.
February wasn’t any better and severe flood warnings were issued for parts of the Somerset Levels, signifying a danger to life.
Although the weather has eased off, the clear up operation will take some time.
The HMRC have issued a telephone number for those affected by the floods to offer help and advice on tax matters.
